GROWTH REGULATOR EFFECTS ON YOUNG CHERRY TREES

Planting: Colt rootstock, spacing 5 x 1 m, February 1981. Grafting: february 1982, cv Gemella.
Start of trials: June 3rd 1982, 65 cm shoot length.
Experimental design: randomized block, five plants per plot, five replications.

Treatment: 1. Control. 2. Summer topping, shortening at 47 cm of the leader in the 1st yr, and in the 2nd & 3rd yrs halving of shoot length every time they reach 15 cm. 3. Foliar sprays, SADH+CEPA (Daminozide + Ethephon). 4. Foliar sprays, PP 333 (2 RS, 3 RS)-1-(4-chlorophenil)-4,4-dimethyl-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)pentan-3 ol. 5. Foliar sprays, EXP 3634 (n-propyl-3-t-butylphenossiacetate) in the 1st yr and PP 333 on the 4th shoot apex only during the second year.
At second year’s end, 2 cc of PP 333 diluted in 0.5 liters of water were applied to soil around the trunk base of each tree (table 1).
