Abstract
When apple fruits (cv.
Granny Smith) stored at 2°C were transferred at 20°C, ethylene production strongly increased; in parallel, RNAase activity in apple pulp tissue increased.
The capability of the apple tissues to produce ethylene and RNAase decreased with the storage at 2° C. The inhibitor of ethylene production, aminoethoxyvinylglycine, inhibited ethylene production and the increase of RNAase activity. 2,5-Norbornadiene, a competitive inhibitor of ethylene action, inhibited RNAase induction.
These results suggest that RNAase induction could depend on ethylene production. 2,5-Norbornadiene inhibited, also, the ethylene production: this inhibition is probably in relation to the autocatalitic production, in ripening, of ethylene.
