Preliminary evaluation of fruit traits of sweet cherry (P. avium L.) cultivars on ‘Landing 2’ in Beijing, China

Abstract
Cultivars with large fruit size, high soluble solids content (SSC) and good firmness are more desirable for cherry growers, and therefore the main breeding goals in China and abroad.
In this study, 45 sweet cherry (P. avium L.) cultivars grafted on vigorous rootstock ‘Landing 2’ (P. avium × P. pseudocerasus) were tested and evaluated based on 3 years of observation and testing in Beijing.
The average fruit weight, soluble solids content and flesh firmness were measured.
The promising cultivars with large fruit size, high SSC and good firmness were recommended for sweet cherry production.
