Abstract
A study was conducted on the effects of three commonly used rootstocks in Liaoning, including P. serrulata, P. mahaleb, and ‘Gisela 6’, on the flowering, branch to stem ratio regulation, tree height and trunk diameter, fruiting and yield of multi-branch layering ‘Tieton’ sweet cherry trees.
The young trees on ‘Tieton’/‘Gisela’ 6 are prone to flowering with 608 bouquet branches in 7-year-old trees and a high rate of fruiting spurs.
The yield of 5-8years old trees per ha is 8700, 10425, 11055, and 12150 kg, respectively.
The yield of ‘Tieton’/P. mahaleb is slightly higher than that of ‘Tieton’/P. serrulata, with 403 bouquet branches.
The yield of 5-8 years old trees per ha is 6495, 7950, 9345, and 12720 kg, respectively.
The yield of ‘Tieton’/P. serrulata is the lowest, but its flesh firmness is highest, at 3.48 kg cm‑2. The results showed that the rootstock had an impact on the growth, early fruiting, fruit quality and yield of greenhouse ‘Tieton’ sweet cherry trees.
The application of ‘Gisela 6’ rootstock laid a good foundation for the development of early abundance technology for young sweet cherry trees.
