Abstract
Starting from 14 days after full bloom (DAFB) of ‘Tieton’ sweet cherry, leaf photosynthetic indicators were measured every 15 days, and chlorophyll contents and antioxidant activities at different stages of leaf development.
The results showed that the photosynthetic capacity of young leaves (14-28 DAFB) was relatively weak, and the contents of chlorophyll a (Chl. a), chlorophyll b (Chl. b), chlorophyll a+b (Chl. a+b), as well as the content of active antioxidants of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were relatively low.
The net photosynthetic rate (Pn) reached its maximum at 11.95μmol m‑2 s‑1 on 29 DAFB, stomatal conductance (Gs) and transpiration rate (Tr) also reached their highest values.
The photosynthetic capacity of the leaves remained at a high level from 29 to 75 DAFB, marking the functional period of the leaves. Chl. a, Chl. b, and Chl. a+b contents, SOD and CAT activities were the highest, while MDA content was relatively high.
After 76-153 DAFB, leaf Pn gradually decreases, Chl. a, Chl. b, and Chl. a+b contents, SOD and CAT activities decreased, MDA contents continued to increase, and leaves enter the senescence stage.
The determination of the photosynthetic characteristics and antioxidant activity of sweet cherry during its young leaf stage, functional stage, and senescence stage, which provided a theoretical basis for improving of the photosynthetic performance of sweet cherry leaves and the cultivation technique of high yield and quality.
