Abstract
The objective of the study is to decipher the effects of rain-shelter cultivation on ecological environment and physiological characteristics of the sweet cherry tree.
In this study, the 8-year-old ‘Lapins’, ‘Wanhongzhu’ and ‘Fujin’ sweet cherry/P. pseudocerasus Lindl. ‘Daqingye’ were used as materials, the temperature, humidity and light intensity under rain-shelter cultivation were surveyed by recording instrument.
At the same time, the main phenophase of sweet cherry was observed.
During the harvest, the physiological index including chlorophyll, photosynthesis, shoot growing and index of fruit quality including mean fruit mass, Soluble Solids content were measured.
After the rain, the fruit cracking percentage was surveyed.
The results showed that the change of temperature and humidity were stable relatively under rain-shelter cultivation covered by polythene paulin of 80% light transmittance.
The light intensity in rain shelter cultivation was significantly lower than open field, and the new shoot grew longer and thinner, the leaves area turned larger and chlorophyll content increased, but the leaves photosynthetic rate decreased.
The ripen stage of sweet cherry was delayed for 2~3 days, The rain shelter cultivation had no significant effect on the fruit quality of the sweet cherry.
The fruit cracking rate of sweet cherry was far below 5% and frost injury was alleviated obviously by rain shelter cultivation.
The studies showed that the fruit cracking rate of sweet cherry can be controlled effectively by the rain-shelter cultivation.
