Abstract
Guizhou is located in the southwest of China.
The Karst landform area accounts for 73% of its total area.
The altitude is from 147.8 to 2900.6 m.
The three-dimensional climate is obvious, with no severe cold in winter and no severe heat in summer.
The unique climatic conditions provide a good natural basis for strawberry breeding.
This paper reviews the main research progress of strawberry breeding in Guizhou in recent years with focusing on the collection of strawberry germplasm resources in Guizhou, the breeding of new cultivars and the characteristics of three excellent new cultivars.
Through conventional hybridization, distant hybridization, chromosome doubling and other techniques, some hybrid cultivars with strong resistance and good quality have been obtained.
This paper also analyzes the opportunities and challenges faced by strawberry breeding in Guizhou, and puts forward suggestions for future research directions.
The rise of domestic varieties has given us a lot of confidence and motivation, but the weak foundation of scientific research and the shortage of funds are not a small limiting factor.
In the future, it is necessary to strengthen the research on wild strawberry specific gene mining, quality breeding and disease resistance breeding.
