Abstract

Herbicide drift is the movement of herbicide solution to non-target areas and can cause severe damages to the affected plants.
This phenomenon can occur with any herbicide product.
In order to study some effects of herbicide drift on lettuce, a field pot experiment was conducted.
The grown lettuce cultivar was Maritima F₁ (crop type Batavia). For the purposes of the research two herbicide products were evaluated: Pulsar Plus (25 g L^‑1 imazamox) and Basagran 480 SL (480 g L^‑1 bentazon) which are with systemic and contact mode of action respectively.
The imitation of the herbicide drift was done in BBCH 19 (9 or more true leaves unfolded) with the rates of 20, 50, and 80% of the lowest registered rates of the two products.
The caused herbicide stress after the imitated herbicide drift led to a decrease of the total chlorophyll content, fresh and dry biomass, stem diameter as well as the number of leaves per plant with the increase of the applied dose of both herbicide products.
The caused damages were more severe for the drift of Basagran 480 SL.
