Abstract

This paper presents the behavior of six watermelon cultivars (Dulce de Dăbuleni, Oltenia, De Dăbuleni, Burebista F₁, Kratos F₁ and Peace F₁) in the pedo-climatic conditions of southwestern Romania.
The experiment was conducted in the period 2020-2022, at Dăbuleni Research and Development Station for Plants Culture on Sandy Soils.
Observations were made regarding the development of vegetation phenophases, observations regarding the size of the fruits, their quality, but also production data.
Following the determinations made, the cultivars Kratos F₁ (5.94 kg fruit^‑1), De Dăbuleni (6.15 kg fruit^-1), Oltenia (6.22 kg fruit^-1) stood out for their fruit size. Burebista F₁ stood out for its carbohydrate content (9.84%). The total production of watermelons (2020-2022 average) was between 19.67 t ha^-1 (Dulce de Dăbuleni) and 35.27 t ha^-1 (Oltenia). The obtained results provide information on the adaptability of different cultivars to the pedoclimatic conditions in the Dăbuleni area, but also the adaptability to market requirements.
