Abstract
For the proper and deliberate management of the conservative selection process in order to maintain the variability of the characters and attributes of the Silviana autumn cabbage cultivar, within the limits of specificity and authenticity, the selection was made within the x±s limits established for each individual character.
The morphological features assessed are those characters considered to be dominant characters representative of the population belonging to the evaluated cultivar.
The heritability of characters is high and reflects both genetic potential and environmental influence on plants.
The variability analysis was conducted out on samples taken from the statistical population, analyzing the representative features from the vegetative period, seedling phase, and from the generative period.
In the experimental field of the vegetative period the investigated characters were: the height of the head (cm); the diameter of the head (cm); shape index and the weight of the head (kg). In the generative period were investigated the following characters: the height of the plant (cm); the number of flowering stems per plant; the number of siliques per plant; seed quantity per plant (g) and the thousand seed mass (MMS). The experiment outcomes were properly described, the statistical-mathematical parameters involved in plant population assessment were as follows: the average of the population; standard deviation; the selection interval; the population variability limits; the limits of the selection interval and the variability coefficient.
For the investigated features were established variation histograms (Gaussian distribution). Following the investigation and the results achieved, it is possible to conclude that the Silviana autumn cabbage cultivar fluctuates within the typical limits of variability that its breeders intended.
