Quality and yield performances of tomato under new biofertilizers

Abstract
From an ecological and food safety standpoint, organic agriculture has developed a strong reputation, and in the 2first century it has become a source of sustainable global food supply.
Several studies have revealed that organically grown tomato fruits are higher in antioxidants, polyphenols, and carotenoids than those conventionally produced.
This research was carried out in the organically managed and certified field of Vegetable Research and Development Station Bacau, Romania.
The experiment was carried out in randomized complete block design with three replicates.
Two biofertilizers certified for ecological agriculture were used for fertilization: Ecoaminoalga and Codamix.
These products were utilized to enhance the crops nutritional requirements and also to investigate their impact on some quantitative indicators (mean weight fruit‑1, yield 1000 m‑2) as well as on some physio-chemical properties of the Unibac tomato variety (the content of lycopene and beta-carotene, soluble solids, the content of minerals). Results from this study show the influence of applied biofertilizers on the nutritional, quality and quantity parameters of the Unibac tomato cultivar.
Biometric measurements of the fruits diameter, height, and inner diameter revealed higher values in the three fertilized variants.
Although all fruits were examined at maturity, the content of carotenoid pigments varied throughout the harvests.
This finding confirms the effect of temperature on the biosynthesis of the two pigments studied.
