Characterization of sweet potato genotypes with relevant productive and landscape potential

Abstract
This study characterizes and evaluates the behavior of 6 sweet potato genotypes, new to our country, for multifunctional landscaping and identifies promising genotypes for commercial cultivation.
The multifunctional landscaping is usually based on the correlation between the decoration of the space and the exploration of the different functionalities of the plants.
The 6 genotypes were planted in a trial in the experimental field of the Faculty of Horticulture in Craiova.
The evaluations concerned the morphological characters of the plants (the average number of shoots per plant; the average length of shoots; the total weight of shoots per plant; color and shape of the leaves) carried out 40, 60 and 150 days after planting, the last determination, at harvest.
The analyzed quantitative data referred to shoot growth (biomass production ha‑1) but also to production elements (no. of tuberous roots per plant; the average production of tuberous roots per plant, the average weight of a tuberous root as well as total production ha‑1). From the point of view of plant vigor and average growth rate, genotypes V1 and V5 stood out.
For the obtained production, the genotype from V6 achieved 82.6 t ha‑1, and V5, 58.6 t ha‑1. It should be mentioned that the genotype in V3 did not produce tuberous roots, it only has an ornamental role noted by the shape of the leaf, the color, deep purple and the way of growth in the form of a bush with purple-lilac funnel-shaped flowers.
The sweet potato genotypes studied presented an exotic morphological diversity, relevant to landscaping, so they can be recommended for this purpose as well.
