Foliar solutions influence on several physiological indicators in Solanum lycopersicum L. (Solanaceae) plants

Abstract

Physiological indicators influence plant growth and development and correlate with plant yield.
The present research studies the influence of two foliar fertilizing solutions, A and B on several physiological indicators: dry matter and water content, photosynthesis intensity, respiration and transpiration.
The highest amount of dry matter content for Solanum lycopersicum was detected in leaves of plants fertilized with solution B (28.12%) and the highest water content (92.84%) was observed in the stems of plants fertilized with solution A. Regarding the intensity of physiological processes in the species Solanum lycopersicum, an increase in photosynthesis was observed during the vegetation period in plants fertilized with solution A (4.78 μmol CO₂ m^‑2 s^‑1), whereas during the blooming period, the intensity of photosynthesis recorded higher values in plants fertilized with solution B (8.45 μmol CO₂ m^‑2 s^‑1). A slight increase on the intensity of transpiration, was observed in plants fertilized with solution B both during the vegetation period (3.12 mmol H₂O m^‑2 s^‑1) and during blooming (3.45 mmol H₂O m^‑2 s^‑1). The application of nutritional solutions positively influenced the physiological parameters analysed in Solanum lycopersicum plants.
