The possibility of using grafting for eggplant production under nutrition regime

In recent years, eggplants (Solanum melongena L.) have become increasingly widely cultivated due to high consumer preferences and because this species finds favorable growing conditions, both in the field and in protected areas which ensures good economic efficiency.
Grafting is an effective technique for eggplant growers to reduce soil-borne diseases (conferring tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress), improve fruit quality, and increase production.
Many small-area and/or organic growers seek to produce plants themselves but have difficulty propagating grafted transplants.
The experiments were carried out between 2020 and 2022 in the experimental field of vegetable farms at the “Ion Ionescu de la Brad” University for Life Sciences in Iasi.
The biological material used was two hybrid cultivars of eggplant, ‘Mirval F₁’ and ‘Black Pearl F₁’ grafted on rootstocks of wild eggplant (Solanum sylvatica); tomato (Solanum lycopersicum, ‘Rezistar F₁’) and Solanum sisymbriifolium. Nutrition measures were represented by three fertilization types (biological, organic, and chemical) compared with control, untreated.
The interaction between ‘Mirval F₁’ grafted on ‘Rezistar F₁’ fertilized with Micoseed obtained good results in terms of yield.
