Abstract

Efficient land management practices are crucial for promoting healthy plant growth and optimising germination between crop harvesting and the establishment of the next crop.
This study investigated different soil preparation methods, such as ploughing, discing, soil preparation with a cultivator and cultural measures like hilling from 2016 to 2021 in the Suceava Plateau in Romania.
Apart from the type of aggregate used, the study also analyzed the execution time and the number of processes.
Soil preparation for potato production in podzolic soils depends on various factors that impact the quality of the seedbed and ultimately affect plant yield.
Therefore, using suitable machinery and techniques to minimise soil compaction in podzolic soils is essential.
Autumn soil preparation prevents spring soil laying during planting.
While using the disk harrow after ploughing can increase production, fuel consumption must be considered.
Poor preparation of the germinal bed due to drought causes significant production decreases.
Additionally, excessive soil preparation can decrease dry-year yields while increasing fuel consumption.
Fall ploughing with a disc harrow on the same day is effective, and oscillating disc harrow use positively affects potato production.
Further studies are needed to identify the optimal combination of soil preparation methods to maximise potato growth and yield in podzolic soils.
