Abstract
Bean germplasm collection of Vegetable Research and Development Station Buzau (V.R.D.S. Buzau), Romania, contain over 450 accessions.
Since 2011, in the frame of this germplasm collection, there was observed the appearance of new biotypes.
In 2020, this collection was cultivated in greenhouse covered with polyethylene.
The green houses ventilation space permitted the access of insects.
A medium degree of phenotypic instability was observed from the first stage for plant development, different biotypes were harvested separately.
Plants, which were similar from the phenotypic point of view, presented different seeds.
This paper presents the study of 5 climbing bean accessions seeds sown.
For each accession sown, there were taken into study 9 new biotypes harvested.
The seeds sown represented the control variant for the analysis of the harvested biotypes.
The seeds were evaluated in what it concerns quantitative (100 seed weight, length, thickness and width) and qualitative characteristics (seed color, brilliance, veining and shape). There were registered significant differences concerning the qualitative characteristics.
The colors of the control seeds were: brown with black streaks (V1), brown with beige streaks (V2), brown with black patches (V3), beige with black patches (V4) and black (V5). The seeds harvested presented a lot of colors (white, different shades of beige or brown, black) and also, streaks or patches of different shapes.
The mean weight of 100 sown seeds varied between 33.10 g (V4) and 43.89 g (V1). The results obtained, corroborated by diversity of color and shape of the seeds harvested, show the presence of cross-pollination of climbing bean plants and increase the value of the bean germplasm collection.
