Yielding capacity of spawn of some Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus citrinopileatus and Pleurotus columbinus strains obtained with liquid inoculum

Abstract
The quality of the spawn is reflected in its behavior during the colonization of the culture substrate and, subsequently, in the mushroom production and in their quality.
In our research on the ways of preparation, propagation, and use of mycelium of some strains of lignivorous macromicets of the genus Pleurotus, we have paid special attention to submerged mycelian cultures used as liquid inoculum an intermediate stage in the biotechnology of spawn production.
The objective was to check in the micro-mushroom farm test facility the fruiting capacity of the spawn obtained from the liquid inoculum, compared to the one obtained conventionally/usually from the solid inoculum on a granular support.
The biological material was represented by two strains of Pleurotus ostreatus, one strain of Pleurotus cornucopiae var. citrinopileatus and one of Pleurotus columbinus. For each experimental strain, the spawn was prepared on a granular support (wheat grains) inoculated by two different methods: with liquid inoculum (liquid medium MEB + K2HPO4 1.5 g L‑1, pH 6.5) and with solid inoculum on a granular support.
The spawns obtained by the two methods were sown in polypropylene bags with sterilized lignocellulosic substrate.
After three weeks of incubation the bags were placed in the fruiting chamber to check the yielding capacity.
Regardless of the type of inoculum used to produce spawn, the strains Pleurotus columbinus PcM-98 and P. citrinopileatus PcM-95 gave in the first wave of fruiting higher yields than the two strains of P. ostreatus PoM-74/357 and PoM-77. The use of liquid inoculum to obtain the spawn brought a small increase in yield compared to the classical spawn prepared with solid inoculum in three of the four strains checked.
